Attaching
Lissi had many care-takers in Korea. I was really apprehensive as to how well she would attach and bond to us. Thus far, her life experience was that care-givers change every few hours. In efforts to help her attachment we have tried to carry her many of her waking hours, bathe with her, encourage and promote eye-contact activities, and hold her bottle for her. We also have been the only ones to hold her since returning to the US 5 weeks ago. She is a big flirt and loves to smile at others. I have been very nervous that her flirtatious activity would also include going to and being held by others indiscriminately.
Today I was thrilled when she started crying loudly. I had put her in the floor in the bathroom to help Cal use the toliet. My friend picked her up. Immediately she started wailing. I was happy inside that she started crying when another picked her up, but thrilled that when I took her out of my friend's arms she quickly quieted down! I am starting to get more confident that she does see us as her only caregivers and will prefer us to other adults. Hurray!
