Letter to Lissi on her 8 month bday

Happy 8-month birthday! You are becoming more and more beautiful every day. You are such a happy little girl. You give us huge smiles and laugh out-loud often. It is easy to make you laugh when we tickle you or Cal starts to laugh. You love to follow your big brother around and try to chase after him. He in turn always wants to play with whatever you have, and begs to eat your baby food.

You have a large repertoire of foods you enjoy: peas, sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, rice cereal, barley cereal, and your new favorite--Cheerios. You are getting better and better at actually getting the Cheerios into your mouth. When we first gave them to you, you would get them on your cheek, lip, and neck. Sometimes you would get them in your mouth but couldn’t let go so the Cheerio would come right back out again.

You are now crawling on all 4s. You love to pull yourself to a stand and have done so on almost every piece of furniture in the house. You can sometimes get down from the standing position and other times get stuck upright. Occasionally you will shuffle your little feet while you are standing so that you get a tiny amount of movement towards the furniture or towards the side. You are a good sitter now, although you still do not want to sit for more than a few seconds. You also have become rather proficient at sitting on your knees in a kneeling position.

You have added a “cough consonant” to your vocalizations. You play coughing games with daddy for up to 15 minutes. You squeal in delight when you are happy. You continue to practice using your voice by growling throughout the day.

When you fuss, mommy or daddy can usually quickly comfort you. You still wake up at night to eat, but usually only one time. In the morning you are so quiet upon waking that mommy often doesn’t know that you are up. But if you and Cal are up at the same time he will entertain you and we hear you laughing and laughing.

You bring us great happiness and we love you so much!

Much love, Mommy and Daddy
