Shopping Adventures
About a month ago I decided to register for baby gifts. When Cal came home a lot of my mom's friends and extended family wanted to buy gifts. In case people were feeling generous I wanted to have a registry somewhere. I remembered that my mom's friend became a grandma last year and the mommy-to-be registered for the baby shower at Pottery Barn Kids. I thought that sounded GREAT since I would LOVE to get some awesome sheets and bedding for Lissi and I know that I can't afford that stuff on my own. When the other Speech Pathologists in the district wanted to throw me a shower they asked where I was registered and I told them about the Pottery Barn Kids. I also let a few people at my school know about the registry.
At the shower I got 2 adorable pink bunny towels, a starfish/seahorse mobile, and a starfish crib sheet—all from my registry. I also got 2 group gift cards for Pottery Barn Kids and a little bit of cash.
Knowing that it was be a miserable, rainy Saturday I decided that we should go to the far away mall with the Pottery Barn Kids and use those gift certificates. I also wanted to return the duplicate bunny towel. When I got there I was floored to see that all the sheets and bedding I had wanted was ON SALE!!! I was so excited. So I was able to buy my twin sheets, duvet cover, pillowcase, 2 sheer curtains, AND an airport train-table toy for Cal and I still had $6 left over!!! I didn't spend a dime! Now the weird thing about all of this is that we can't even use these sheets or curtains yet. The sheets are for when Lissi has a twin bed. And the curtains are for when she has her own room. We already have cute star curtains in the kids' room. But I wanted to take advantage of this while I had the money and before the items were out of stock. PLUS, because I told the saleswoman that I was 'closing out' my registry, I got an addition 10% off my entire purchase. Woo hoo!!!
I chose this pattern because I thought it is a great combo version of the star/moon theme we already have going in the room along with the fish theme that is in the room (as well as the rest of the house I might add). Plus it's pink so it adds some girl to the otherwise blue room..
Okay, so that was my Pottery Barn adventure. We also ended up taking the kids pictures at Picture People. I hadn't really planned on going there but I brought a coupon just in case. Then I saw it right next to the food court and I figured we should try since we had no professional pics of Lissi. We weren't going to take any alone shots of Cal (he has enough) but WOW his pic turned out the best by far. Had I known that we were going to take pictures, I would have dressed Lissi in one of her adorable new dresses and made Cal wear a nice outfit. As it was, Cal chose his own clothes in the morning and it is a miracle that they actually matched. They were all hand me downs and not in the best shape. But that smile in the picture makes it not matter!

We went to Gymboree after my friend said that we HAD to go. Everything on sale in the store was an additional 20% off. So I bought a really cute red button down shirt and orange shorts for Cal. They ended up at $10 each, which I normally wouldn't do, but I figure he should have one higher quality non-hand-me-down outfit each season! I bought a hat for Lissi, but then realized when we got home that she already has tons of cute hats, so I'll return that. I bought some adorable barrettes for her (for when her hair is thicker) and a few extra for girl gifts for the summer.
Finally, we went to Bath and Body works and found that their soaps were all on sale 5 for $10. I love the smell of this new soap (I mean LOVE it) so I decided to splurge and get 3 of those as well as 2 foamy soaps for Cal (well really for all of us). These make nice gifts too. They are normally $5 each, so this is quite the deal.
Oh, wait. One more! We had to stop by Gap and I ended up with a sheerish indigo button down long sleeve shirt that has roll up sleeves. I also bought a pair of shorts. My co-worker recently gave me a really hard time. I was wearing shorts because it was blazing hot 2 weeks ago and we had a 1/2 day of school, so many teachers dress down. I wore a pair of shorts and this teacher started teasing me about my "short shorts". I blushed because those are my LONG shorts. I've almost given them away several times because they seem so long to me. Well, I guess that's what happens when I always shop with my husband who likes me in short shorts! So when we were at Gap I saw this pair of shorts that is longish (by my standards) but also has snaps so that it can adjust to 3 different lengths. So maybe I can wear these to work on the last day of school or something?!
Phew! I think I've now related the whole tale. Quite the adventure! We started the trip with lunch (burrito for me) and ended with Starbucks. Both kids fell asleep in last few minutes of the car trip home and then woke up within 5 minutes of parking in the driveway.
